about
bailey johnson is a ceramic artist working out of the canyons north of los angeles, california with a very bossy black cat and a significantly less talkative snake. her work is heavily influenced by the aesthetics of post-modern americana, especially the american west, desert culture and american car culture.
in her studio, she follows zero waste water and clay reclaim practices. all her work is produced slowly and intentionally in opposition of the culture of rampant production and overconsumption so pervasive in the u.s. and in that spirit 5% of all net sales are donated quarterly to the ACLU.
she holds a BFA from CalArts in an entirely unrelated field.
when her hands aren’t covered in clay, they’re covered in engine grease, dirt, paint, or yarn.
she lives and creates on the ancestral land of the Chumash people and Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians
